Choosing A Just Right Book
The "Five Finger Rule" is a quick and easy way to choose a "just right" book for elementary school-aged children.
Have the child read out loud a random page from the book.
If the child makes 0-1 error(s) on that page when reading, the book is too EASY.
If the child makes 2-3 errors on that page when reading, the book is
JUST RIGHT.
If the child makes 4-5 errors on that page when reading, the book is too HARD.
You or your child could hold up the number of fingers representing the errors, hence we call it the "Five Finger Rule". Happy reading!
